# Validation prompt

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

In Profound’s terminology, a validation [prompt](/en/resources/glossary/prompt) is a question designed to check whether an [AI response](/en/resources/glossary/ai-response) recognizes a specific capability of a brand or product. Rather than asking for a list of providers, it focuses on a verifiable attribute, such as accepting a particular file format. The response is compared with current documentation to distinguish recognition, denial, and lack of information.

## Why it matters for marketing

This use helps marketing investigate a gap observed in discovery questions. If the brand does not appear for a particular need, the team can test whether the capability is recognized when it is named. This guides revisions to pages that explain the feature, without automatically concluding that the earlier absence was caused by missing information.

## Example in practice

Suppose a document management platform offers batch signing but does not appear in a recommendation for legal departments. The team asks whether that product lets users send multiple contracts for signature in one operation. If the response denies the feature while the current manual describes it, marketing records the discrepancy and checks how clearly the public page explains it.

## How to apply or verify

Choose one capability per question and prepare supporting evidence: a manual, plan documentation, or an announcement with an effective date. Save the full response and the sources it cites. Classify whether it confirms, contradicts, qualifies, or does not provide information about the attribute. Check the plan, version, and region before forwarding the discrepancy to the product content owner.

## Important distinctions

In this context, validation tests whether a capability is recognized; it does not certify that the product works or that the response is correct. Factual evaluation requires a reference independent of the response itself. A question can test both validation and factual accuracy without belonging to mutually exclusive classes. Ambiguous responses or those lacking sufficient documentation should remain inconclusive rather than be treated as negative.
