# Transactional prompt

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

A transactional [prompt](/en/resources/glossary/prompt) is a request to carry out a concrete action, such as booking, buying, signing up, or submitting an order. In the conversation, the user wants to move from information to execution. The intent may be clear even when the assistant lacks the necessary tool. Therefore, identifying the request does not mean the transaction was completed.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, distinguishing between an action requested and one carried out prevents responses from being counted as conversions. A user might request a booking and receive only instructions, or get a pending confirmation. The team needs to know where the process ends, which conditions prevent execution, and what record proves the outcome to assess opportunities to improve the path to becoming a customer.

## Example in practice

Imagine someone asking to book a table for four at eight o’clock on Saturday. The assistant says it sent the request, but the restaurant has not yet confirmed availability. The team realizes the report counted that submission as a booking. It decides to separate forwarded requests from confirmed bookings, using the restaurant’s confirmation as evidence of the outcome.

## How to apply or verify

To verify, describe the action, the required parameters, and the condition that proves completion. In an authorized test, track the tool’s response and the record in the responsible system. Check whether approval, availability, or information is missing before executing. If the response only guides the user, record that limitation, avoiding inferring an operation from convincing language.

## Important distinctions

Google calls queries aimed at carrying out an activity Do, including broader goals; this is not exactly the same as this editorial category of prompts. The same request may combine information, comparison, and carrying out a purchase. Transactional intent, permission to act, and system confirmation are different conditions. Asking for an action does not prove the assistant can perform it or that it was completed.
