# Third-party validation

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

Third-party validation is the confirmation of a claim by someone outside the organization making it. It can occur when an evaluation tests a feature, a study examines an outcome, or an [entity](/en/resources/glossary/entity) verifies a requirement. Its value depends on who verified it, the evidence presented, and the scope of the conclusion—not merely on the existence of an external publication.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, this confirmation helps distinguish a commercial promise from a feature supported by evidence. It also guides which claims can be used in comparisons and sales materials. An external source needs to understand what it is evaluating. Repeating a manufacturer’s announcement increases its reach but offers little independent support for claiming that a particular capability has been proven.

## Example in practice

Imagine an app that advertises report exports in Portuguese. An analyst publishes screenshots of a test and describes how the [headings](/en/resources/glossary/headings-html-section-titles) are translated, while the notes remain in English. This validation is partial and specific. The team should accurately represent the observed condition, investigate the limitation, and avoid turning the evaluation into an endorsement of the entire product.

## How to apply or verify

When verifying, isolate the claim and review the corresponding evidence. Identify the version, method, date, responsible party, and any disclosed commercial relationships. Check whether the source conducted its own test or reproduced supplied material. Record what was confirmed, what fell outside the test, and any discrepancies. When using the conclusion, preserve its context and update the assessment when the subject changes.

## Important distinctions

Third-party validation is not equivalent to any external signal, mention, or positive review. Content can be critical and still correctly confirm a fact. A financial partnership requires transparency and scrutiny of the method; by itself, it does not determine the validity of the evidence. This confirmation is also not a universal ranking factor or a guarantee of [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation) in [AI responses](/en/resources/glossary/ai-response).
