# Schema Product

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Schema Product uses the [Schema.org](/en/resources/glossary/schema-org) Product type to represent an offered product or service, with properties such as name, brand, model, and identifiers. Associated offers can describe commercial terms. The markup must match the item and the published information; filling in many fields does not make incomplete, outdated, or invented data more reliable for the systems that process it.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, this organization helps verify that technical and commercial attributes belong to the same offer. An incorrect product code can mix up models; outdated availability can contradict the page. The team should request verified information from the catalog and commercial operations, distinguishing the product description, offer terms, and requirements of the search feature it aims to support.

## Example in practice

Imagine a store that sells two coffee makers from the same brand, with different reservoirs. The compact version’s product page shows its correct identifier, but the Product markup uses the larger model’s code. The team compares the catalog, page, and [structured data](/en/resources/glossary/structured-data), corrects the identifier, and checks the compact version’s attributes before publishing the update to the same product page.

## How to apply or verify

Define which item the page describes and check its name, identifiers, attributes, and linked offers. Compare the markup with the information buyers can see, and assign responsibility for price or stock changes. On Google, product snippets and merchant listings have their own uses and requirements. Consult the relevant documentation and validate the structure, without confusing eligibility with display.

## Important distinctions

Product is a vocabulary type; [JSON-LD](/en/resources/glossary/json-ld) is a way to represent the data. Page markup and a Merchant Center feed are separate submissions that can coexist. Accurate attributes help clarify the item, but do not guarantee correct interpretation by every system, recommendation, or [AI citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation). Reviews and commercial terms must not be fabricated to complete the structure.
