# Schema Organization

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Schema Organization is the use of the [Schema.org](/en/resources/glossary/schema-org) Organization type to describe an organization through structured properties such as name, address, website, and relevant contact details. The markup represents data about the [entity](/en/resources/glossary/entity); it does not replace public information or automatically create a recognized company. [JSON-LD](/en/resources/glossary/json-ld) can express this data, but the type and the syntax are different things.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, implementation begins by confirming the institutional details that will be given to the technical team. An outdated contact, imprecise name, or profile belonging to another organization remains incorrect even in valid code. Google documents uses for these properties to understand and disambiguate organizations in Search, without guaranteeing appearance. Quality depends on the identity, relevance, and upkeep of the declared information.

## Example in practice

Imagine a cooperative that has changed its customer service center. The institutional page shows the current phone number, but the Organization markup still contains the old number. The team compares the two representations, confirms the correct contact with the responsible department, and updates the field. Then it checks the published markup, without assuming an immediate change in search results.

## How to implement or verify

Identify the appropriate type or subtype and fill in only applicable properties with confirmed data. Google recommends the home page or a page that describes the organization; it does not require repetition across all URLs. Validate the code, compare names, contacts, and references with public information, and test the delivered page. Assign someone to keep it updated after institutional changes.

## Important distinctions

Organization is not equivalent to every type of local business, product, or person: subtypes and entities have their own functions. It is also not a promise of authority, a [knowledge panel](/en/resources/glossary/knowledge-panel), or visibility in AI. Google documentation does not require properties for the general type, but recommends relevant ones; other features and subtypes may have specific requirements. Syntax validation does not prove data accuracy.
