# Scaled content abuse

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Scaled content abuse is the generation of many pages primarily to manipulate search rankings, offering little or no value to readers. Google's policy describes extensive, unoriginal production, regardless of how it is done. AI, human work, and combinations of techniques may be involved; the tool used alone does not determine whether a set of pages is abusive.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, the definition requires evaluating the usefulness of an editorial project before deciding its scale. Multiplying pages with minimal variations in city or question can create the appearance of coverage without addressing different needs. Each piece must be justified by relevant, verifiable information, with responsibility for review maintained, rather than using quantity as proof of quality.

## Example in practice

Imagine an inspection company proposing five hundred local pages that copy the same text and change only the municipality. There is no confirmed service or specific information about these locations. The team pauses production in this format and checks where it operates and which local questions it can genuinely answer. It continues reviewing the same set without filling gaps with invented data.

## How to apply or check

Check the purpose, originality, and contribution of each group of pages for real users. Look for content that is combined or transformed without added value, unsupported information, and queries addressed only through repetition. Assign reviewers and maintenance appropriate to the proposed volume. In Google's guidance, abusive content hosted on a site should be excluded from Search; consult the applicable rules before making a correction.

## Important distinctions

Scale is not a fixed number of pages or a synonym for abuse. A broad catalogue can feature distinct items and useful information. AI-assisted content is not automatically incompatible, just as human-written content does not guarantee quality. This policy differs from site reputation and link spam. There is no universal number that makes publication safe or abusive.
