# Profound’s FactCheck

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

FactCheck is a Profound feature that checks factual claims about a brand against a Knowledge Base, the knowledge base used as a reference. Documentation reviewed in October 2026 places it in the FactCheck tab of [Answer Engine Insights](/en/resources/glossary/profound-s-answer-engine-insights). It analyzes [prompts](/en/resources/glossary/prompt) flagged for this purpose, groups claims by topic, and links inaccuracies to the URLs cited in responses.

## Why it matters for marketing

A response might present an outdated policy as if it were still in effect. For content and communications, checking the claim and its reference lets you choose a specific correction instead of reacting only to the tone of the response. The feature depends on an appropriate knowledge base; if it is outdated, the classification should be reviewed before guiding editorial work.

## Example in practice

Imagine a course provider whose current policy allows cancellations within seven days. An accompanying response says three days and cites an old page. FactCheck flags the discrepancy against the provider’s knowledge base. The team checks the documents and URL, requests an update to the page, and monitors new responses to see whether the information remains incorrect.

## How to apply or verify

Check which prompts were flagged for FactCheck and which documents make up the Knowledge Base. Open the flagged claim, the reference used to check it, and the associated citations. The policy owner should confirm the version and effective status before making a correction. The documented interface lets users indicate an incorrect classification or mark a claim as irrelevant, supporting a review of the record.

## Important distinctions

FactCheck is a proprietary Profound feature, distinct from fact-checking in journalism generally. Its documented scope requires factual, actionable claims about a single fact; subjective assessments go to Sentiment. A URL associated with an inaccuracy is a lead for investigation, not standalone proof of causation. Updating the source also does not guarantee that engines will change their responses in the next cycle.
