# LLMO

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

LLMO stands for [Large Language Model](/en/resources/glossary/llm) Optimization. In the marketing usage described by Ahrefs, the term covers actions to improve how a brand is represented in responses generated with these models. The work involves information and sources about the brand; it does not mean access to the model’s parameters.

## Why it matters for marketing

The term may appear in proposals promising to improve product mentions, citations, or descriptions. A Brazilian team needs to turn this label into a verifiable scope: which questions will be tracked, which information will be corrected, and which results will be observed. Without this, different services can seem equivalent, and simply counting appearances may conceal an inaccurate product description.

## Example in practice

A logistics company commissions an LLMO project after appearing in responses as an exclusively road-based carrier, even though it also offers warehousing. The team finds directories that retain the old description and unclear company documentation. It decides to review these sources and track questions about warehousing, distinguishing corrections to the description from any potential increase in mentions of the company.

## How to apply or verify

Request an inventory of published information, sources reviewed, and issues to correct. Define the platform, period, language, and questions for data collection. Record evidence before and after the changes, distinguishing mentions, recommendations, and citations. The review should check that descriptions accurately reflect the actual service, including restrictions that a favorable response may have omitted.

## Important distinctions

LLMO overlaps editorially with [GEO and AEO](/en/resources/geo-and-aeo-guide), but the name does not establish a universal method. It is also not [fine-tuning](/en/resources/glossary/fine-tuning), training your own model, or optimizing its execution cost. Updating a page may change information retrieved in a search; this does not prove that the content was included in training or changed the model’s internal parameters.
