# Knowledge panel

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

A knowledge panel is an information box that summarizes an [entity](/en/resources/glossary/entity) recognized in search. On Google, these panels feature people, places, organizations, and other subjects from its [Knowledge Graph](/en/resources/glossary/knowledge-graph). They are generated automatically from different sources and may incorporate verified suggestions. The panel shows a public representation, not everything the system knows.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, the panel lets you check how an organization’s name, activities, and other details appear in that search. Outdated information could direct readers to the wrong contact or confuse companies with the same name. A review should record the query and the field observed, rather than treating the panel’s existence as a sufficient measure of reputation or [AI visibility](/en/resources/glossary/ai-visibility).

## Example in practice

Imagine a cultural association whose panel displays the name of another institution in a nearby city. The team compares the names, locations, and references shown, records the query, and gathers public documents that distinguish the two associations. As the entity’s representative, it follows the verification process and suggests a correction, then checks whether that field was updated.

## How to apply or verify

Record the search term, date, location, and panel fields you want to check. Compare the information with relevant, current sources. Google offers processes for representatives to claim panels and suggest changes; other users can submit feedback. Document the request and check the observed result, without treating submission as approval or a guaranteed timeframe for changes.

## Important distinctions

A knowledge panel is not a profile entirely controlled by the company. Google distinguishes this feature from Business Profile, which is intended for businesses that serve customers at a location or within a service area. A panel also does not prove recognition by every AI model. [Structured data](/en/resources/glossary/structured-data) and consistent references do not guarantee that a panel will be created or corrected.
