# Generative AI performance report

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

The [Search Console](/en/resources/glossary/google-search-console) [generative AI](/en/resources/glossary/generative-ai) performance report shows impressions for links to the site in [AI Overviews](/en/resources/glossary/ai-overviews) and [AI Mode](/en/resources/glossary/ai-mode) in Google Search. The documentation states that it has been available worldwide since August 31, 2026, and excludes Search Labs experiments. It is a report of impressions on these surfaces, not a dashboard covering all assistants or conversions.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, the report lets you track pages, countries, dates, and devices associated with these impressions. The data is also included in the Web search performance report, so it should not be added as separate, additional reach. Interpretation must account for different aggregations: totals by property and rows by page may count the same appearance in different ways.

## Example in practice

Imagine a university with two linked pages in the same generative result. The team finds one impression in the chart by property and two in the rows by page. After reviewing the documentation, it identifies the aggregation difference and keeps each total in its context. This avoids reporting three exposures or interpreting the discrepancy as a failure to collect data for the same pages.

## How to apply or verify

Check the property, period, filters, and dimension before comparing values. Note preliminary data and the table's row limit. In exports, indicators of unavailability may become zeros, so verify their original meaning. If the report does not appear, investigate eligibility and impression volume; the screen's absence alone does not show that no page was used by AI.

## Important distinctions

An impression does not prove human readership, a click, or a purchase. This Search report is distinct from the Discover generative report and does not provide a basis equivalent to the frequency of mentions in a custom [prompt list](/en/resources/glossary/prompt-set). AI Overviews and AI Mode are included in the documented scope; references in other assistants require other sources. Preserve the meaning of property, page, and unavailable data.
