# E-E-A-T

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

E-E-A-T brings together Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. Google uses these concepts to explain aspects of quality and guide its evaluators. Trust plays a central role. E-E-A-T is neither a single ranking factor nor a public score that a site receives and can raise with one isolated feature.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, these concepts help assess the strength of information. Does the author or reviewer know the subject? Is experience demonstrated? Are claims supported? Can readers identify who is responsible, the context, and any limitations? The answers should be evident in the content and editorial process, not just in a bio added to the end of an article.

## Example in practice

A tool comparison explains the scenarios tested, the versions, who was responsible, and what was not evaluated. Another repeats commercial descriptions and claims to have conducted tests without evidence. The first makes it easier to verify the information. For topics that may affect health, safety, or finances, the responsibility of sources and expert review deserves additional attention.

## How to apply or assess it

Examine actual authorship and review, methodology, references, dates, and possible conflicts of interest. Show experience where relevant, with examples and limitations. Correct outdated information and make contact channels accessible. Do not invent credentials, testimonials, or results to fill in trust signals. An audit can bring these signals together, but its checklist does not become an official Google score.

## Important distinctions

E-E-A-T does not require every piece of content to demonstrate every aspect in the same way. A firsthand account and expert guidance can be useful for different reasons. Nor does completing a checklist guarantee [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation) by AI. Use the concept to improve trustworthiness for people, while keeping editorial quality separate from observed platform performance.
