# DeepSeek

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

DeepSeek is an [artificial intelligence](/en/resources/glossary/artificial-intelligence) research company that develops models and provides access to them through its own services. Its website features a chat, an app, and an API platform, an interface for integration with other programs. In this context, tracking DeepSeek requires specifying whether the subject is the assistant used by a person or a model incorporated into another application.

## Why it matters for marketing

A marketing team may receive reports that attribute responses simply to DeepSeek. That label is insufficient for comparing brand presence: the official chat and an agency tool connected to the API may provide different contexts. Specifying the service, model, and configuration helps determine whether the results belong to the same tracking series or need separate records.

## Example in practice

Imagine a packaging manufacturer that sees its catalog summarized accurately in an internal tool but receives an incomplete description in DeepSeek chat. The person in charge discovers that the tool sends the catalog along with each question through the API. They decide to separate the records: the first evaluates an application with supplied context; the second records the chat’s behavior under the observed conditions.

## How to apply or verify

Ask the technical lead for the application name, model identifier, date, and an indication of any documents or tools used for the query. For the API, check the current documentation, as accepted names may come to point to successor versions. In chat, record the visible options and the response references, without assuming equivalence with a call made through an integration.

## Important distinctions

DeepSeek may refer to the provider, its chat offering, or model families; these objects should be distinguished in the report. A model made available by the provider and run by third parties does not automatically inherit the features of the official app. API format compatibility also does not make services identical. Identifying the model does not prove web access or catalog [retrieval](/en/resources/glossary/information-retrieval).
