# Copilot Search

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

Copilot Search is the AI-powered search and answer experience within Bing. It presents summaries, cited sources, and opportunities to explore further with follow-up questions. According to Microsoft, it uses Bing results for the initial query and for additional searches made on the user’s behalf. Its scope is this search experience, not every Copilot app.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, it matters whether a page contributed to the answer or merely appeared among related links. The documented interface separates sources for the summary from other search links. Recording everything as a [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation) would inflate the brand’s attributed presence. This distinction helps assess documents that support descriptions and choose which references warrant a content review.

## Example in practice

Imagine a language school searching for courses for professionals in Copilot Search. Its website appears in All links, but the answer’s sources are two third-party pages. The analyst records the website as a link shown, without counting it as a source for the summary. Then they open the references used to check where the category description came from.

## How to apply or verify

Access the experience identified as Copilot Search in Bing and record the query, language, date, and session context. Examine the answer and open the sources area, distinguishing it from All links. Check whether the documents used support the claims and preserve interface evidence. Repeat the procedure under comparable conditions when tracking changes across the set of queries.

## Important distinctions

Copilot Search is not equivalent to the traditional Bing results list or the assistance available in Microsoft 365. A displayed source does not guarantee the summary’s accuracy, a brand recommendation, or received traffic. The documentation notes variations by market, device, and browser version; therefore, the organization of results should be checked in the experience actually observed.
