# Comet

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

Comet is [Perplexity](/en/resources/glossary/perplexity)’s browser, which integrates an [AI assistant](/en/resources/glossary/ai-assistant) into browsing. It lets you ask questions about pages, work across open tabs, and delegate tasks within the browser. It is a browsing app with assistance, not a language model called Comet or just a search results page.

## Why it matters for marketing

Marketing teams can assess how information is presented when assistance uses browsing context. A page viewed directly may offer different details from those available in a search response. For those organizing research, it is also important to distinguish reading and comparison from actions that change forms or accessed systems. Each task needs a defined outcome and limit.

## Example in practice

Imagine an event production company comparing venues, with three venue pages open in Comet. It asks the assistant for a table of the capacity and facilities listed on those tabs. The summary mixes seated capacity with standing capacity. The production company checks the labels on the pages and separates the two types before sharing the comparison with the sales team.

## How to apply or verify

Use familiar pages and specify which tabs and fields should be included in the task. Check the table or summary against the visible content and record any discrepancies. If an action is involved, test it first in an appropriate environment and verify the final state. The person responsible for the operation should check the access granted, the session used, and what was actually changed.

## Important distinctions

The Comet browser and Perplexity Search are distinct interfaces: analyzing tabs in a session is not the same as searching web sources. Being signed in to a site does not authorize every operation within it. A commercial description of delegable tasks does not prove they are performed correctly. Compare the features, context, and permissions of the installation being used before generalizing a result to other users.
