# ChatGPT

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

ChatGPT is OpenAI’s product that lets people interact with [artificial intelligence](/en/resources/glossary/artificial-intelligence) through conversations and tools. It can support questions, material analysis, and file creation, depending on the experience used. Web search is a product capability for consulting information and presenting sources. ChatGPT does not refer to a single model: the interface brings together available models, context, and features.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, a ChatGPT response may present a brand, compare options, or cite a page. Evaluating this presence requires recording the experience consulted and whether search was used. A response produced using documents uploaded by the analyst does not represent spontaneous discovery of that content on the web. Mixing these conditions makes it harder to understand which sources actually informed the response.

## Example in practice

Imagine an analyst asking ChatGPT about customer service tools for clinics and receiving a comparison with links. When she opens a reference, she finds a discontinued plan. She records the response and cited page, checks the current offer, and requests a new search using the current date. The result guides an investigation of public content without proving that all responses are up to date.

## How to apply or verify

In an evaluation, note the [prompt](/en/resources/glossary/prompt), date, app or website, account, and model when displayed. Also record attachments, prior context, and signs of web search. Open citations to check whether they support the claims. If search is unavailable, check plan limits and whether it is enabled in the workspace; the absence of the tool does not demonstrate an absence of content about the brand.

## Important distinctions

Search may happen automatically when a question benefits from current information, but that does not mean every response consulted the web. Citations may be incomplete or incorrect. ChatGPT, a model accessed through an API, and browser control are different conditions. Features, permissions, and limits vary; compare responses obtained under stated conditions, without inferring audience or sales from the brand’s presence.
