# Business context

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Business context is the set of information that makes it possible to interpret a marketing decision in the reality of a company. It brings together the offering, audience, buying situation, market, objectives, and constraints, with sources and dates when needed. In this editorial usage, it is not a single technical standard: it is a working basis that helps explain who an action makes sense for.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, context helps avoid choosing topics, questions, or competitors simply because they appear in a tool. A relevant opportunity depends on who is buying, the problem being addressed, and what the company actually offers. Recording these conditions helps assess an [SEO](/en/resources/glossary/seo) or [AI visibility](/en/resources/glossary/ai-visibility) diagnosis without turning every absence of a mention into a business priority.

## Example in practice

Imagine an agency working with a company that rents equipment only in the Campinas region. A review finds many national questions about buying machinery. After checking the service area, type of offering, and customer profile, the team prioritizes questions about regional rentals. The decision stems from these conditions; it does not assume that more frequent queries are better opportunities for that business.

## How to apply or verify

Gather information from product, customer service, sales, and audience research, identifying who can validate each point. Distinguish observed data, commercial statements, and hypotheses. Check prices, coverage, and availability before using them in a brief. When information is missing, record the gap and the decision that depends on it. Review the document when the offering or audience changes.

## Important distinctions

Business context differs from a [context window](/en/resources/glossary/context-window), the limit on information a model processes in an interaction. It also does not replace strategy: understanding the conditions comes before choosing objectives and priorities. An audience profile is only part of this set. Market data helps investigate the landscape, but category averages do not prove how a company’s customers behave.
