# Branded prompt

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

A branded [prompt](/en/resources/glossary/prompt) is a question that includes the name of a brand, organization, or product. It may ask for a definition, an assessment, a comparison, or confirmation of a feature. The term refers to the content of the question, not a paid response. When two brands are included, the question remains branded for both.

## Why it matters for marketing

These questions help marketing teams check how the company is represented. They are useful for investigating outdated descriptions, incorrect attributes, purchasing questions, and comparisons with known competitors. Their value lies in the accuracy and context of the information. Counting a name mention alone usually says little, because the user has already introduced the brand.

## Example in practice

“Does Company X serve teams in Brazil?” tests specific business information. “Company X or Company Y for an online store?” explores selection criteria between named alternatives. If the answer assigns Company X a plan that no longer exists, the priority is to locate the outdated source and make current information clearly available.

## How to apply or check

Build questions from sales objections, support contacts, and recurring points of confusion. Include real name variations and distinguish the corporate brand from its products. Save the full answer and its sources, when shown. To compare periods, keep the criteria the same and record changes in branding, offerings, or pricing that could explain differences.

## Important distinctions

Presence in branded prompts is not equivalent to visibility in category questions. It also does not prove market-wide perception. The user may have prior context in the conversation, and the answer may vary by platform. Separate this group in reports to assess brand representation without overstating conclusions about spontaneous discovery or recommendation.
