# Brand SERP

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

A brand SERP is the results page shown when someone searches for a brand or company name. SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page. The page may include owned and external pages, titles, descriptions, images, and other elements. Its composition depends on the search engine, query, and search conditions.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, this search helps assess what someone finds after hearing the company’s name. A result for an organization with the same name could confuse its identity; an outdated description could suggest an offer that has ended. Reviewing the entire page helps identify specific fixes to make on the website and in listings, rather than basing the assessment only on the first position.

## Example in practice

Consider a school called Horizonte that exclusively offers vocational training. When searching for “Horizonte escola Recife,” the team finds its website with a generic title and a directory that describes it as a preschool. In this example, the team checks the source pages, clarifies the offering on the website, and requests an update to the listing. This decision resolves an ambiguity visible in the brand SERP.

## How to apply or verify

Define queries using the name and relevant variants, keeping the city or category when needed. Record the search engine, date, language, location, device, and known personalization settings. Save the results and open the destination pages to check identity and whether the information is up to date. Compare observations under similar conditions; a single screenshot does not show that all users see the same results page.

## Important distinctions

A brand SERP differs from a search for a category and from an [AI response](/en/resources/glossary/ai-response) about providers. It is also not a complete picture of reputation or a definitive test of whether machines understand the company. The owner can influence elements on their pages, but cannot control the entire selection. Improving titles and descriptions does not guarantee identical results across searches.
