# Answer engine market share

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

[Answer engine](/en/resources/glossary/answer-engine) market share is the proportion attributed to a platform within a set of usage or activity defined by the research. The percentage must specify its unit: visits, queries or users, for example. Without a source, period, territory, devices and included platforms, the label does not show which market was measured.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, this indicator can guide which platforms to study and monitor, provided the scope is relevant to the intended audience. A lead in chatbot website visits does not prove a lead among Brazilian consumers. Nor does it determine where a brand is mentioned most or which channel generates the best business opportunities for it.

## Example in practice

Imagine an agency whose website received 800 visits in September identified as referrals from four answer engines. Of these, 480 came from one platform: 60% of the observed dataset. The team uses the data to investigate its landing pages, but reports the result as a share of referrals to that website, avoiding calling it a share of the Brazilian market.

## How to apply or verify

To verify a comparison, read the methodology and preserve the numerator, denominator and filters. Compare periods with the same coverage, and record estimates, missing data and classification changes. Statcounter publishes chatbot market share with territory and device filters, based on page views; its methodology distinguishes observed activity from unique visitors.

## Important distinctions

Platform usage, traffic they refer and brand presence in answers are different measures. Similarweb documentation separates [AI traffic](/en/resources/glossary/ai-referral-traffic) and brand visibility. The same person may use several answer engines, and repeated visits are not equivalent to distinct users. Browser data also does not automatically cover apps, APIs or all search activity.
