# Amzn-SearchBot

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

Amzn-SearchBot is the [crawler](/en/resources/glossary/crawler) used to improve search experiences across Amazon products and services. Allowing it access makes content eligible for these experiences, such as Alexa. The documentation expressly states that this agent does not collect content to train [generative AI](/en/resources/glossary/generative-ai) models. Its purpose should be distinguished from the broader purpose of [Amazonbot](/en/resources/glossary/amazonbot).

## Why it matters for marketing

A marketing team may want to keep materials searchable in Amazon search experiences while restricting other types of collection. To do so, it needs to assess Amzn-SearchBot separately. The agent's visit indicates access, while eligibility describes a possible condition for participation; neither signal proves that a response displayed the page or brought visitors to the site.

## Example in practice

A furniture manufacturer, in a hypothetical scenario, wants to allow searches for the public cleaning manual for an armchair in Amazon search experiences. Its policy blocks Amazonbot, but it also blocked Amzn-SearchBot by mistake. A review identifies both groups in [robots.txt](/en/resources/glossary/robots-txt); the team requests that the manual be made accessible to the search agent, while keeping its choice about Amazonbot.

## How to apply or verify

Check the Amzn-SearchBot group in the manual's host robots.txt file and the page directives. Amazon says that if the agent is not mentioned specifically and other search bots are allowed, it follows the instructions given to those bots. Validate access using Amzn-SearchBot's own official list, without reusing the Amazonbot list.

## Important distinctions

Amzn-SearchBot is not [Amzn-User](/en/resources/glossary/amzn-user), which may retrieve live information in user-initiated actions and may not follow all robots.txt directives. These agents' settings are independent and can take about 24 hours to be reflected in systems. The documentation does not promise inclusion, ranking, or [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation). Blocking future visits does not prove that previously collected content has been removed.
