# AI visibility

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

AI visibility is the observable presence of a brand, product, or domain in responses from AI systems. In monitoring, the metric depends on the presence rule and the set of responses analyzed. Some tools count a name in the text; others also include a [cited domain](/en/resources/glossary/cited-domain). The definition should accompany any percentage presented in the report.

## Why it matters for marketing

The metric helps marketing teams discover which topics the company is part of the conversation on. An overall average, however, may hide an absence precisely in questions that guide purchases. That is why the analysis is more valuable when it relates presence to audience, intent, competitors, and description accuracy, rather than treating every appearance as a success.

## Example in practice

Imagine one hundred valid responses to a set of questions, with the brand mentioned in thirty of them. If the rule is presence in the text, observed visibility is 30%. This does not mean that 30% of people who use AI know the brand. Nor does it say whether the brand was recommended, criticized, or simply included in a list.

## How to apply or verify

Before comparing periods, check that the questions, platforms, naming rules, and data sets are equivalent. Report counts alongside percentages and distinguish collection failures from responses with no presence. Open examples to investigate what changed. A new question added to the dashboard can change the average even when no previous response has changed.

## Important distinctions

Visibility differs from market share, advertising reach, and traffic received. A [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation) may exist without a textual mention; a mention may not include a link. Sharing the operational definition helps avoid misleading comparisons between tools. At Tropk, interpretation should be based on the responses and evidence available in the project, within the scope of data collection.
