# AI mention

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

An AI mention is an identifiable occurrence of a brand, product, or organization’s name in the text of a response. It can be positive, negative, or neutral. To measure it accurately, you need to establish which names and variations identify the [entity](/en/resources/glossary/entity), especially when there are abbreviations, brands within the same group, or words also used with another meaning.

## Why it matters for marketing

A mention shows that the company appeared in that response, but does not, on its own, indicate how it was presented. For marketing, the passage matters as much as the count. The brand may appear as a historical reference, an unsuitable alternative, or an example of a problem. Analyzing these roles makes it possible to prioritize improvements and content based on what the audience actually read.

## Practical example

A response says, “the Aurora tool does not offer support in Portuguese.” Aurora was mentioned, but the claim may be wrong and could affect the choice. In another response, a link to the domain appears as a source without the name in the text. In this case, there is a presence as a reference, but not necessarily a mention under the text-based rule.

## How to apply or verify

Define a [canonical](/en/resources/glossary/canonical) name and legitimate variations, such as the legal name or an older spelling. Test identification on real responses and review namesakes manually. Decide whether to count once per response or each time the name is repeated; these are different measures. Save the passage and evidence so the team can review classifications and changes.

## Important distinctions

A mention is not the same as a recommendation, since the system may simply describe the company. Nor is it the same as a [citation](/en/resources/glossary/ai-citation), which points to a source. These signals can coexist in the same response. A useful report separates the three situations and avoids adding overlapping percentages as if they represented distinct groups of people or opportunities.
