# AI Copilot

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

An AI copilot, in the context of agents, is a system that helps prepare a task, presents proposals, and waits for human approval before carrying out the proposed actions. It can gather information, draft changes, or recommend a next step. The term describes a form of collaboration; permissions and approval points need to be defined in the implementation.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing, separating proposals from execution helps teams evaluate tools that access ads, content, or customer data. A ready-to-use recommendation does not mean a campaign has already changed. The team needs to know who reviews the material, what will be changed, and when the system receives authorization to act on that item.

## Practical example

Suppose an agency asks the copilot to review the text of an ad. It presents the current version, suggests alternative wording, and waits for approval before replacing the text. The reviewer spots an offer condition missing from the proposal, corrects the wording, and authorizes only that change, retaining control over the ad decision.

## How to apply or verify

Describe the permitted actions and the points where human input is required. In a test environment, reject a change and check that it remains unexecuted. Then approve a specific proposal and compare the result with what was authorized. Logs should link the proposal, decision, and action, without relying solely on a confirmation message in the conversation.

## Important distinctions

This use of copilot does not refer to the [Microsoft Copilot](/en/resources/glossary/microsoft-copilot) product. Nor does it establish a universal scale between assistant, copilot, and autonomous agent: providers use these names in different ways. Occasional approval requests do not guarantee human control over every action. Check whether pausing is mandatory in the workflow or merely an option the model can choose.
