# AI browser

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## What it means

An AI browser is a browser that integrates [artificial intelligence](/en/resources/glossary/artificial-intelligence) features into the experience of visiting and using websites. It may offer search, questions about open pages, and content summaries. Some products also include agents that perform actions. These features vary: reading a tab, searching the web, and filling out a form are distinct capabilities.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing teams, the difference affects research and the evaluation of user journeys. An assistant can compare competitors’ content across open tabs, while an agent may try to use a form. Before delegating a task, define the expected outcome, the accessible data, and which actions require review or permission.

## Example in practice

Imagine an analyst who opens three software plan pages in Comet and asks for a comparison of their storage limits. The summary does not provide one plan’s capacity; its page explains that this limit depends on a custom proposal. She checks that page, marks the limit as not provided, and requests the specification before completing the comparison.

## How to apply or verify

To evaluate your chosen browser, test search, reading the current page, comparing tabs, and performing a defined task separately. Check sources, results, and access settings. Comet’s documentation distinguishes between assistant and agent, and states that integrations with external services require user opt-in, with the option to revoke or change permissions.

## Important distinctions

Browsers, search engines, and AI models play different roles, even when they appear in the same product. Comet uses [Perplexity](/en/resources/glossary/perplexity) as its default search engine, but that does not make every query an authorized action. The advertised ability to perform tasks also does not demonstrate unrestricted account access, guaranteed completion, or error-free browsing.
