# Agentic browsing

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Agentic browsing occurs when an AI system navigates pages and interacts with a website to complete a delegated task. It may search for information, select options, and fill in fields, depending on the permissions available. The interface may be interpreted through images, [HTML](/en/resources/glossary/html-the-web-s-markup-language) structure, or an accessibility tree. The process depends on the agent, the browser, and the page’s behavior.

## Why it matters for marketing

For marketing and commerce, this means evaluating whether the user journey clearly communicates products, terms, and action statuses. An ambiguous button or a selection that disappears can hinder task completion. The team should observe which information the agent can identify and what confirmations it receives, without assuming that every automated visit represents purchase intent or conversion.

## Example in practice

Imagine someone asking an agent to compare hotel rooms with free cancellation, without booking. During browsing, it would select the dates and open the terms for each rate. If the initially displayed option had a penalty, it would leave that room out of the comparison. The evidence would be that rate’s policy; the expected result would still be a list, with no booking created.

## How to apply or verify

Choose a defined user journey and check its execution in a controlled environment. Observe labels, selected options, error messages, and terms presented after each interaction. For authorized actions that create orders or bookings, also check the record in the responsible service. A screenshot and click show steps in the browsing process; the final confirmation must match the requested object.

## Important distinctions

Browsing a website differs from calling an API directly, although the same agent may combine both methods. Having an AI-powered browser does not mean every journey is automated. Nor does logging in or identifying the agent authorize every action. A filled-in form is not a completed purchase, and access obstacles should be handled according to the permissions in place.
