# Agent readiness

Reviewed on 2026-10-07.

## What it means

Agent readiness is an operational assessment of the conditions a website or service provides for agents to carry out defined tasks. It can cover access, understanding the interface, interaction, and confirmation of the outcome. The criteria need to be stated for the journey and agent being assessed; the term does not refer to a universal readiness score.

## Why it matters for marketing

For those commissioning website improvements, this assessment connects technical obstacles to concrete business tasks. An accessible catalog may still prevent an agent from selecting a variant or recognizing the outcome of a form submission. The team can prioritize the point that interrupts the journey instead of treating the number of available pages as proof of readiness.

## Example in practice

Imagine a school that wants to let agents check course availability. In this hypothetical test, the agent finds the course and enters a date, but the interface does not indicate whether places are available after submission. The school prioritizes an explicit availability response because the inquiry cannot be completed with verifiable evidence.

## How to apply or verify

Define the task, permitted inputs, and expected outcome before assessing. Record the agent version, account, and access conditions. Observe every step, including errors, waiting states, and confirmation. Content and development teams should check together whether the observed outcome matches the requested task and whether sensitive actions depend on the controls intended for the user.

## Important distinctions

Readiness is broader than readability: understanding a page does not guarantee being able to act on it. It also does not mean authorizing unrestricted access, removing confirmations, or accepting any agent. Google documentation recommends semantic structure and stable interfaces for these journeys; this supports implementation criteria without making the label an official ranking factor or a guarantee of execution.
