# Technical SEO Checklist

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## Find the problem before choosing a fix

A page can be published and still have a block, incorrect [canonical](/en/resources/glossary/canonical), or error that makes it harder to discover. The checklist helps turn a suspicion into a check with evidence, scope, and a next step.

It is for [SEO](/en/resources/glossary/seo), content, and development teams that need to review an existing site, prepare a migration, or check a change. A well-chosen sample can reveal template issues; it does not confirm the status of every URL.

## What’s in the spreadsheet

There are 51 consolidated checks, with an initial priority, how to verify, acceptance criteria, applicability, and a reference. Status, evidence, action, owner, and retest fields are left blank for your team to fill in.

- Observed versus expected [indexing](/en/resources/glossary/indexing), robots directives, canonical, sitemaps, pagination, and duplicate versions.
- Links, redirects, 404 responses, titles, descriptions, [headings](/en/resources/glossary/headings-html-section-titles), and content that depends on JavaScript.
- [Core Web Vitals](/en/resources/glossary/core-web-vitals), loading diagnostics, images, caching, and resources that incur transfer or processing costs.
- Mobile usability, [structured data](/en/resources/glossary/structured-data), HTTPS, measurement, and internationalization when these checks apply.

## How to get started without auditing everything at once

Make a copy for each project and define the hostname, period, and sample: commercial pages, articles, listings, and other important templates. Start with URLs that should be discoverable and changes with the highest risk.

Use [crawling](/en/resources/glossary/crawling), HTTP responses, a browser, and [Search Console](/en/resources/glossary/google-search-console) as relevant to each check. Record the URL, tool, date, and observed result. If you don’t have access to the property or field data, mark it as Not verified and explain the lack of evidence.

## How to turn the review into work

P1 indicates an issue that is typically important for access, accuracy, or functionality; P2 helps organize improvement and investigation; P3 indicates a contextual check. Adjust priority to the actual impact on your site: the spreadsheet does not calculate an SEO score.

When you find a failure, describe the action and assign an owner. After the fix, repeat the same check and review pages that use the same template. Keep the previous evidence so you don’t mistake a change in testing for an improvement.

## Read each metric in context

[LCP](/en/resources/glossary/lcp-largest-contentful-paint), [INP](/en/resources/glossary/inp-interaction-to-next-paint), and [CLS](/en/resources/glossary/cls-cumulative-layout-shift) use field data when available, evaluated at the 75th percentile. A lab test helps investigate causes; an isolated HTTP response time does not measure the entire experience. [FCP](/en/resources/glossary/fcp-first-contentful-paint), [TTFB](/en/resources/glossary/ttfb-time-to-first-byte), and [TBT](/en/resources/glossary/tbt-total-blocking-time) are complementary diagnostics. TTI is a historical reference, not a current Core Web Vital.

There is no universal word count, fixed title character limit, or CDN requirement for every site. Hreflang requires actual international versions. Structured data must match visible content and does not guarantee rich results.

## Download and use

The file is an editable XLSX spreadsheet, with one tab for checks and another for instructions and sources. Open it in Excel or import it into Google Sheets; check the status menus after importing. The material contains assessment criteria, with no client data or results filled in.

Enter your email in the form to submit the request and download the file. Your name and company website are optional. The download starts after you submit; you don’t need to wait for an email.
