# Strategic SEO Checklist

Reviewed on 2026-10-06.

## Choose what deserves to be created, updated or consolidated

A keyword list alone cannot decide what your team should publish. Strategy starts with who needs an answer, what decision that answer supports and what the company can explain with evidence.

This checklist is for marketing, [SEO](/en/resources/glossary/seo) and content teams that need to turn a diagnosis into a plan. It organizes decisions about existing content, topics, effort and measurement before an opportunity becomes a calendar item.

## What’s in the spreadsheet

The 40 checks include a method, acceptance criteria and applicability. The status and plan fields are blank. Priorities are editorial starting points, not traffic or revenue forecasts.

- [Business context](/en/resources/glossary/business-context), audience, offer, region and commercial or editorial competitors.
- Content inventory, real questions, [search intent](/en/resources/glossary/search-intent) and interpretation of demand estimates.
- The role of each page, overlap, URL equity and whether to keep, update, consolidate or create.
- Prioritization, ability to provide evidence, brief, human review, distribution, publication, measurement and maintenance.

## How to use it in a planning meeting

Choose an offer, audience or content family as your initial scope. Bring together people from content, sales and product to confirm questions and facts. Review related content before opening a new URL.

Record the source for each diagnosis. Demand estimates should specify country, date and tool; a missing metric does not mean there is no need. A topic with low search volume can clarify an important decision for the customer.

## A content decision needs an outcome and evidence

For each topic, write down the question, what the reader will get, the original contribution and the available sources. Prioritize corrections to facts, promises and URL equity before scaling production.

Similar titles suggest a possible overlap. Read the full pages together and, where possible, compare queries, conversions and incoming references. Consolidation requires a decision about what to preserve, which destination is useful and how to retest redirects, [canonical](/en/resources/glossary/canonical) and links.

## Measurement guides the next cycle

Set a baseline and a useful action to track. Compare the same period, audience and method; record changes in the sample. Traffic, branded demand, conversions and observations of [AI responses](/en/resources/glossary/ai-response) reveal different aspects of the work.

A result observed after a change does not, by itself, prove that the change caused the gain. Record the hypothesis, competing factors and next check. Don’t use keyword difficulty or a scanner score to forecast citations.

## Download and use

Download the XLSX spreadsheet and use one copy per project. Fill in the evidence, decision, owner and retest; mark Not applicable when there is a recorded reason. This method is a Tropk editorial adaptation, informed by the sources below, and is not a search engine approval standard.

Email is the only required field. Name and website are optional. After submitting the request, you can download the file immediately.
